The Journey
We source and buy material from all over the world. Stone is quarried in enormous blocks which are then cut into slabs of varying thicknesses. The size of these blocks and slabs depends on the material. These slabs go through a finishing process which results in a polished, honed, flamed etc
Our job is to find the right slabs at the right quality, price and size to maximise yield and reduce waste.
Planning
A complete understanding of working with stone underpins our work at New Image Stone. Working closely with the client, we will make sure that the stones chosen are fit for purpose.
Following site surveys and studying plans and drawings we will put together a price. Once a price is agreed we then order all the stone.
Cutting
The stone slabs arrive at our yard and we inspect them for quality. If they do not meet our standards the slabs are rejected and sent back to the supplier. If they pass quality control they are then unloaded. Before cutting the slabs are assessed for a number of reasons. Firstly yield is important, it is crucial that we get the best yield out of the slab. Sometimes with veined materials we have the added complication of making sure that the pieces of stone match and line up. We have to imagine what the finished article will look like before anything is cut. Once this process is complete the slabs are brought into the factory and cut up into the required pieces ready for finishing.
Finishing
These blank pieces are then finished. For floor tiles edges are cleaned up and tiles are stacked neatly and allowed to dry. Vanity tops are transferred to our CNC machine where bowl cut-outs and drainer grooves are formed. From here the stone is hand finished for the utmost quality.
Installation
Expertise on installation is essential when working with this fabulous material and it takes skilled craftsmen to hand-finish the elegant details that help transform a house into a home; stunning limestone and marble floors, triple-edged skirting, architraving and window surrounds all need a professional touch.
